And did arrive at heaven gate,

He stood without and would not knock,

Because he meant to pick the lock.

Re: Jruther2's Lockpicking Vids

That was really fast, full dissassembly, a good job on picking the medeco and good vid. That pick you're using looks almost thin enough to feel and possibly catch the pin grooves. Are you able to do that, or is it just thin for more manueverability?

Too bad it's so hard to focus on the keys and pins. Is there only 1 mushroom driver?

Thanks for the kind words!

The pick is 0.031 inches thick which is fairly thin I guess, all my picks are homemade so I don't know what to compare to, but the point of the hook is really dull so I can't really feel the grooves with it like some of my other picks that I have made for that specific purpose. After I set the pins to the shear line, I begin to do some raking in an effort to rotate the pins that are not set with the sidebar. This is only the second fully populated Medeco that I have picked and the same method worked both times and I picked both locks with repeated success. I think the reason this works on these two locks is because the false grooves in the key pins on these two particular locks are really shallow as compared to some other Medecos I have so the raking can pull them out of the false grooves pretty easily and send them home. However, my theory could be flawed because I have only seriously been working on Medecos for a couple of weeks now and still have a lot to learn. So I'm open to other thoughts on the subject. And yes, there is only one mushroom driver which is in the first position.

Gotta like that.

I figured as much, but thought I'd as anyway.

I thought so, but I'm used to seeing 2 or more and I thought maybe I couldn't see it clearly enough.

Looks like your method is working well for you. I've heard it described much the same way in a few books. 2 opened locks and 1 on vid in less than a min I think. Impressive stuff. I don't have any real specific tips to help that aren't obvious, and it doesn't really seem like you need any to begin with. I do have one last thought on the subject though, do you seem to have a chisel pin that gives you more trouble than the others? I have an ok time with the left and right rotating pins, but the center cuts are more difficult for me to set.

I think the method you've demonstrated here will be what everyone will need to be doing eventually. I caught a rumor that Medeco has begun producing their biaxial pins with closed ends. So you cant get into the grove from inside the keyway.

You heard right. They are called ARX pins and come in many new medeco locks. They make it extremely difficult to access the groove, and increasingly inaccessable as you lift the pins further into the bible to set them at the shearline.

Well, yes and no. If I use bottom keyway tension then the center cuts are a little more difficult because I can't help but come in at an angle one way or the other. But, when I use top keyway tension that problem tends to go away because I can rest the back of my pick on the bottom of the keyway to give me more control and I have lots of freedom to angle my pick because of the extra room. Does that make sense? Unfortunately, I'm not very good at top kw tension yet as I have just started using it in the last few weeks mostly because I haven't been able to make a top keyway wrench that I am really comfortable with.

More accurately, those would be called milled pins. There also exists pins with the groove closed off both at the top and bottom, they go by the name of micro milled pins.

ARX is way more complicated than just the security features on the pins :!: It's a common misconception that the special features = ARX, but this is false. If you want all the details, check out the "MEDECO-Binder-1.pdf" document floating around the net. ;)

All I can say is kudos to medeco for paying attention to the picking community and improving their product.

Got any pics of this kind of pin?
