On that 1st chrome silver lock - maybe the key doesn't turn - but operates more as a plunger to move things out of the way. Similar to what a wafer does. Try turning or twisting the SPLIT HOUSING instead of the key and see what it does.

That's it! You got the idea, Jruther2.

I also reach in there - feel the pin - and then gently twist the pick and the pin will set. I then move on to the next pin and do the same drill. If you use real light tension, you'll really get a feel for the pins. Great job.

i am a convert....i resisted at first too....TOK works.

I seem to remember a while back that you were thinking about making yourself a Medecoder. Did you ever make one? If so...I would really appreciate some input on how you went about it...materials etc. I still haven't found material that I am happy with to use for the turning wire and I haven't even attempted to make the sliding tube scale yet. I want to open this Stanley with all five pin stacks in there on video and I think that the Medecoder is my best chance for picking it in a reasonable time frame. More importantly, I have an S&G 831b that I don't have keys for and I have been one rotated pin away from having it picked in the counter clockwise direction :cry:

. Enough crying. If you've made one, any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. If you haven't maybe we could work on one together.

yes i recall...i have been diligently searching out materials, and think i have found the solution..i have a marine wholesalers,near me, and looking for tempered wire,( such as that found in fishing lures/spinners) if they dont have it right off the roll, like for outfitting downriggers and whatnot,
i was just going to look for some cheap spinners with enough wire in them...
i will phone them today...
as far as a wire holder, the turning handle from a cheap disc-detainer pick is great,and allows for replacable wires...
i will keep you posted....
you GOTTA get that S&G open! =)

I knew I saw that lock in the 1205 vid.

awol is on the right track.

Not to interrupt, but fish hook with the barb filed off and the tip slightly blunted works if bent well. Put it in an exacto knife handle and that fits in a smaller diameter crayola marker which is very easy to cut a window into. Now all that's left is spacing the marks which are easy to score into the plastic. Of course you do need to find a knife with a handle that's even and not much texture for a grip. Also it can't be the kind with a single slot collet(?) it has to be the one with a cross cut collet and a small hole in the middle so when tightened down a flattened or otherwise modified eyelet on the hook keeps it from spinning, and the collet hole keeps it from too much veritcal play. It works well enough, but it looks like shit.

Great info Tooly, thanks a lot. Sounds like you have made one. If so, have you had any luck using it? Somehow I just don't see it working as easily for me as it seems to work for JK.
