ya, i made a thread about this 9 months ago, but to be honest lsa and xeo were helping me on it.
i would strongly suggest, instead of making a list of peoples personal feelings and experiences with a lock,...
you define what makes a lock difficult, then make a scale based off of those features.
example.
Level 1 Waffer
Level 2 Pin Tumbler
Level 3 Pin Tumbler, Security Pins
Level 4 Pin Tumbler, Security Pins, Slider
Level 5 Pin Tumbler, Security Pins, Sidbar
Level 6 Pin Tumbler, Rotating Security Pins, Sidbar
Level 7 Pin Tumbler, Telescoping Pins, Sidebar
Level 8 Pin Tumbler, Telescoping Pins, Sidebar, Double Sheer line
ect..
this is just an idea. i dont know enough about high security locks but a list of individual locks put into a scale from 1 to 10 is a shit idea, there is no UNIVERSAL comparison aside from a persons personal experience.
i can tell you right now, ive picked a thousand locks, but im just a level 3 by my scale, and a level 6-7ish on yours. something to consider and thank about.
much love lsa!
Re: RPG keypicking
thats a good idea too... hrmm i like it...
now i dont really know how to proceed ?!?

1. 1 pin
2. 2 pin
3. 3 pin
4. 4 pin
5. 5 pin
etc...
The problem is that a 6 pin lock with crappy tolerances will be easier than a 4 pin lock that has unusually tight tolerances.
Because of that simple problem I would lean towards the way LSA is/was setting it up. Also, because it is his list, he should have complete control over what goes where on the list. If he feels something should be moved or changed. He should be able to do it. Of course he will want other peoples opinions/experiences, because the more accurate the list, then more and more people will use it and reference to it.
Re: RPG keypicking
i feel its a community thing... most of the inital locks i threw up there were from the chat and youall added the rest... im simply compiling it
BUT we do need more locks...
where does the kaba penta go ;P
i would put wafer locks below level 1 lol except things like the duo... its a good 5 or 6 due to the fact that a noob with a ball pick cant open it... ever... the ball is too big to hit the ward wfers. and even aimlessly raking it is unlikely you will hit the wafers in the wards

i realize you have the uncanny ability to make a 4 pin lock unbelivably hard, but ALL pin tumbler locks, whether they have 3 pins or 10 pins, should be on the same level, just because it has more pins, DOES NOT make it a harder pick, its what is behind those pins, rotating those pins, counter milling, ect...that makes them hard.
if you feel that all schlage locks are harder than kwikset, then fine, you can have a different level for locks NOT MADE IN MEXICO or something to that effect lol, i agree there are some SIMPLE pin tumbler locks that have tighter tolerances, BUT, this does not make them a SECURITY feature like spool pins or biaxial pins, arx pins. ITS JUST A BETTER LOCK. and as you know even kwiksets are hit or miss, some are hard, most are easy,
theres a reason why safes and locks have a security rating, because of the features it has, no because of one individuals experience with it.
thats my 2 cents, now im all out of pennies
Re: RPG keypicking
so am i still a level 0?

Re: RPG keypicking
where do you suppose a best lock would be placed ?
Re: RPG keypicking
I think Gege locks are harder than American and I also think that Assa Twin locks are harder than the Schlage Primus (Assa has better driver pins and the Assa Combi pins have notches so that rotating them is harder).
So maybe put American to 4 and Gege to 5.
