Id like to see a complete list of locks from all the major companies for picking and collecting purposes, does anyone know of where i can find such a thing?

and id like to see, a list of locks a hobbiest should pick, like a list of 50 or so locks a person should pick to be considered intermediate, and a list of 20 or so locks a person should pick to be considered expert. it would be realy cool to have a list of 50 locks or way more, from easiest to hardest, so guys can just move down the list, progressivly getting harder.

Here is a list I compiled from a blank catalogue. I put a star beside the locks I'm familiar with, and 2 stars for those I'd consider worth collecting. Enjoy

I would love to see a list like that, but with pictures, too! I have a bunch of locks that have no markings, and that I can not identify.

It would be great to have pictures with a little write up about the lock in question discussing its internals, and have the list sorted into beginner, intermediate and expert.

If you have locks you want identified just post a pic and we can help you figure out what it is.

Geez, .45, be careful what you wish for. The only ones I can identify are the ones that I bought myself, or are labelled really clearly.

Which means that almost my entire collection thus far is unidentified. haha, it would be a lot of postings. I haven't touched most of them yet, anyways, but when it comes time, you bet I will be asking for help.

:)

Maybe a wiki for locks. With a dedicated address - 'locks.keypicking.com'. It could be a wiki, like wikipedia. Users could start a page for a particular lock then others could add to it as they know more about it, etc..

Here is an example:

I am new, so the best lock that I have picked and have a few of is a Master Lock #3. I would go to the wiki, see that there is not a page for a Master Lock #3 so I would start one. I would upload a picture of the lock, maybe take some measurements; weight, size, etc.. Maybe a brief description, not limited to; typical places to purchase, maybe an estimated price, etc..

Then a more advanced user would come a long and would add that it has four standard pins, is susceptible to bumping, easily raked, re-keyable, etc..

I am a software engineer by trade, so I apologize if the next part gets a bit too data centric...

We could set up fields in the wiki for typical aspects of locks, like pin count, pin types, key profile, skill level, vunerabilities, etc.. An ability to add attachments would be stellar, like exploded diagrams, pictures of cutaways, links to YouTube and Vimo, links to manufacturer pages if any, etc..

Basically, a community maintained thing.

After a bunch of locks are added, one could search the database of known features of a lock to help identify an unknown lock that they have.

I think that it would also benefit in the forum as well. Users could easily link to pages of locks for conversation sake. Especially if we use intuitive URL's like:
locks.keypicking.com/[Manufacturer]/[Model] ex: "locks.keypicking.com/Master_Lock/3"

I am a noob, so I am probably overly excited and my terminology probably missed the mark.

www.Lockwiki.com

It needs more contributers, but there is a lot there. I've found it quite useful on a couple different occasions now. No need to start a new one, just get people to contribute to this one.
