Why i don't like Storm picks, and why that make me sad

Ok so i ordered 3 picks from Storm H5, D5 and C2

I was really excited about getting these as they really are beautiful picks, plus i was really keen to try out the curves.

These are really well made and beautiful picks, but for me they are really not much use.

The main problem I'm having with these picks is the length of them. The handles are great, but the neck of the pick is ridiculously long. maybe it's just the way i hold my pick, but i like to rest my fingers on the front of the lock for control, as demonstrated with this southord pick (I have this south ord in a sparrows handle, the southord fits nicely in it, however on a sparrows pick the handle is less than useless!)

even when picking the front pins i have contact with the lock at all times which gives me good control.

However with the Storm pick i can't get near

And is there any need for a pick this long, with the pick in the back of the keyway there is still loads sticking out, are there any locks with this deep a keyway?

Image

Here are all three picks. I like the hook profile but it still doesnt make up for the length of the neck. the offset diamond is pretty big, almost two big to use on any euro profile lock so it's pretty useless for small keyways. the curve is pretty aggressive but i could get used to it if the neck was shorter, however i think the C1 would be better, i dont see that the C3 or 4 would be any use at all.

I really wanted to like these picks and buy a full set and i'm sad that I'm so disapointed with them. As it stands i will sell these cheap as i'd rather stick with southords and petersons, so if you want them make me an offer.

If storm ever redesign there picks, or start making a shorter set i will definitely give them a try, but for now I won't be buying any more.

I feel your pain.... they really are beautiful picks. I can see why you would REALLY try to like them. I too use the same method (finger on the plug). And judging from your pictures, I can see without a doubt, there's just no way I'd be able to adjust to these and use them with any efficiency :( I remember when I first seen these over at lp101... I was VERY impressed with the craftsmenship and design, and would even go back to the pictures from time to time just to marvel at them. lol

They are totally horrendous and laughable. The curvature on the hooks is extremely poor design. Whoever designed these picks clearly doesn't pick locks.

I can't believe how much money i wasted on these, they dont offer anywhere near as much control or feedback as my $2 southords do.

well I'm glad i didn't stick my hand in my pocket like i was going to. the length of the pick never really entered my mind, until now.
Undoubtedly, they are ridiculously long. I would like to find out what method they used to determine the length they decided on.

Re: Why i don't like Storm picks, and why that make me sad

I guess who ever designed these picks prefers a longer neck, but from all the responses here and all the people i have spoken to in the chat box, it would seem most people prefer a shorter pick.

I really don't think storm did enough market research. they created a lot of hype about there product so and are clearly quite savy when it comes to business, but they need to work on their R&D.

Hey Dopug, from the pictures the picks look approx. 2" long or so. Would you be kind enough to measure the length of the neck for me for reference? Many thanks,

That is extremely and needlessly long! Maybe the person that designed them has very long fingers? :???: I too am a little sad because I was planning on purchasing a set when I get some money but I have some doubts now. :(

Sorry mate but i sold the picks and sent them off before i saw your request to measure them.

If anyone else has a set maybe they would be so kind as to tell us the overall measurement, and also the length of the neck.

Thats a surprise as they're so well designed lols

Seems like a lot of people were really excited about these picks, but is there anyone who is satisfied with them??? Or does everyone who bought them feel abit like they have been :bananafuck:
