Why i don't like Storm picks, and why that make me sad
I was really excited about getting these as they really are beautiful picks, plus i was really keen to try out the curves.
These are really well made and beautiful picks, but for me they are really not much use.
The main problem I'm having with these picks is the length of them. The handles are great, but the neck of the pick is ridiculously long. maybe it's just the way i hold my pick, but i like to rest my fingers on the front of the lock for control, as demonstrated with this southord pick (I have this south ord in a sparrows handle, the southord fits nicely in it, however on a sparrows pick the handle is less than useless!)
even when picking the front pins i have contact with the lock at all times which gives me good control.
However with the Storm pick i can't get near
And is there any need for a pick this long, with the pick in the back of the keyway there is still loads sticking out, are there any locks with this deep a keyway?
Here are all three picks. I like the hook profile but it still doesnt make up for the length of the neck. the offset diamond is pretty big, almost two big to use on any euro profile lock so it's pretty useless for small keyways. the curve is pretty aggressive but i could get used to it if the neck was shorter, however i think the C1 would be better, i dont see that the C3 or 4 would be any use at all.
I really wanted to like these picks and buy a full set and i'm sad that I'm so disapointed with them. As it stands i will sell these cheap as i'd rather stick with southords and petersons, so if you want them make me an offer.
If storm ever redesign there picks, or start making a shorter set i will definitely give them a try, but for now I won't be buying any more.
