For those who bought one of Riyame's S&G 826c locks.
There are a fair number of us who benefited from the generosity of Riyame who offered these S&G 826c locks, of MBI who shipped them, and very much of FarmerFreak who generously picked all of them to control at no cost.
Now that you have the lock(s) with no keys, what do you do? Here is my suggestion.
First, there is a seller on ebay selling Medeco US Military lock cylinders. They are $27.95 (USD) with free shipping in the United States. The problem is they are for the 833 and 950 locks, not the 826. Yet there is a simple solution.
First, here is the Medeco lock from eBay. New In Box, with tag. Good luck finding a Medeco dealer who can or will get a blank for this and cut it for you, but that is another issue entirely.
OK, now let's compare this new KIK cylinder to the original from the lock.
If you look at the new lock cylinder, there are some things that help you know where to cut! What angle do I cut at? Well, one side has a flat spot that is at the correct angle!!!
Simply cut at that angle until your cut is to the center post.
How deep to cut? Cut down to the lip that can barely be seen above the circlip in the picture below:
Now use a flat file to clean up the edges of your cuts.
Better make sure the locking bar fits!
Both ways…
Pop your modified lock cylinder into the 826:
Install your locking bar
Turn it out of the way of the shackle with the key. This is a very good time to make sure everything works before locking the padlock!
Lift the shackle up and install the cover:
Now close the shackle and lock it. Remove the key.
Your lock with the new cylinder installed!
Test out your keys!
You are done!
Hey wait a minute… Did you notice something about your key trials? Yes, all three keys function as a control key in this lock, not just the key labelled as a control key. That is because the lock body for an 833 is different than the lock body of an 826. On an 833, the operating keys can not be turned to the control position. Not so with the 826. Keep that in mind if you loan out the key!
Have fun and good luck.
