It's all good now, not sure if you did something to fix it or reloading my browser cleared it up.
Great shot by the way...thanks.

Cheers

I am not sure if the spline key orientation makes a difference or not.

This is where I broadcast my ignorance... so bear with me. I thought the hand is simply the direction the bolt is facing? In the S&G installation video, for example, the lock is mounted VD but the lever is to the side. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjmLG8tNfWQ&t=11m17s)

I guess I'm just trying to figure out what happens if you mount the orientation the "wrong" way. I assume that it throws off all your numbers by some factor of 90 degrees? (Especially since the Diebold doesn't have any visual indicators on drive cam orientation.)

Cheers,

Re: Diebold 177-39 combo locks with stainless doors

Well, that would be correct. But my comment applied to the Diebold lock. S&Gs can be mounted in any direction but these ones must be either Left or Right handed depending on where the lever is. That is why there are no indications on the drive cam and only the single slot in it for the spline key instead of 4.

Some other locks have a gravity fence that does not have a spring so if you were to install a L handed lock facing the right the fence would be up side down and when you locked it you would be locked out since you could not open the lock anymore.

Re: Diebold 177-39 combo locks with stainless doors

Ah, gotcha. I assume that standard practice with Diebolds is to mount with the lever on top then? (And that would then determine the handedness?)

As far as these specific ones are concerned, yes. I am not sure if they made other models that were allowed to be mounted in any direction or not.

Re: Diebold 177-39 combo locks with stainless doors

Will say that both of the locks received here (one for me, one for another member overseas) have been Diebold 17823C locks, not 177-39 locks. Very different than what is pictured above, though with the same dials.

Ah, he only sent me a picture of the 177-39s.

What is the difference with the 178-23s? I have a 177-23 and the main difference is a drive cam with L,R, VU, VD handed cam and no internal relocker.

found a link to Oldfast's pics of a 17823 in case anyone else was wondering what it looked like (as I did):
