Tool for?

one of my underlings saw a locksmith throw this away on a job site the other day. he grabbed it outta the dumpster and gave it to me like a good little underling. im not sure what it is, what it does, whether or not its broken ect....thought id post it here. the only markings on it read: No. 1852 GTD USA

anyone have any idea what it is?

Greenfield Tap and Die handle. For standard round dies.

Die handle, die holder or die stock. Not for taps. Looks like a pretty good sized one. What's that, about 18'' long?

I can never decide whats the tap and whats the die, I just know what bit to use.

its about 12" (TWSS) if anyone wants to pay the shipping its theirs

Taps go in things as in keg tap or maple tap. Things go into dies as in pressing die or stamping die.

Not much tapping & die-ing going on in the locksmith world ... maybe he wanted to lighten is bag a good reason to throw it away
