Hall Effect Demo

What it says on the tin!

Yes, I know the video is very bad quality but what to look out for is just how far away from the sensor the magnet registers...

Admittedly, I did use pretty strong magnets for this but I have tested with weaker magnets and the results are still outstanding.

This was my first little hall sensor project so I wanted to share it...I love it! This is using very basic, entry level sensors too.

Now get your mind whirring as to just what this type of thing could be used for in the real world! (Mods, feel free to move this if you feel it is necessary)

Any further questions just ask.

The video works for me. It is quite interesting, and must be a fun project.

Maybe you will need a browser that is compatible with your networks there in Never-Never Land, Peter!

Re: Hall Effect Demo

video works for me too, pretty interesting... if you can't see it I'll try and describe it as accurately as I can: it's the digital equivalent of a compass. gives north or south (or nothing) and changes as you pass a magnet over it, even if it's quite far.

cheers :)

Video works on my Blackberry Playbook.
After your first post I did a little research on the Hall effect. You can actually get a pretty accurate read of the magnet orientation with the right setup. Many possibilities to play, not just with magnetic locks.

Yes mate, the video wouldn't work for me either. I had to delete all my cookies, then it was ok.

Oh yes mate, there are a lot of very cool sensors out there. This is a pretty basic one. The possibilities are very cool though...
