Are skeleton key templates available?

Have made my own picks from printed templates and would like to make my own skeleton keys also.

Does anyone know where I can find templates to make my own skeleton keys?

Re: Are skeleton key templates available?

Hi , the term "skeleton key " generally means a key that will open more than one lock , so you mean "master key" generally these only work in pin tumblers , not lever locks or wafers or dimples , although dimples can be mastered also ! pass keys are also available for utilities and emergency services , but you won't need them mate , to master a leverlock system would be horrendously expensive , make some quality picks that suit your picking style , that is the best skeleton key you will ever want !

Re: Are skeleton key templates available?

There is no such thing as skeleton keys for modern locks. Old warded door locks and some cheap warded padlocks can be by passed with skeleton keys but not pin tumbler or other modern locks. Most locksmith supply houses sell the padlock skeleton keys, but although I have a set of keys for old style door locks, I have no idea where to buy them now. Bottom line - you will likely never use them and should spend your time learning to pick locks.

Was looking more along the line of these used in this video. I guess I will try and get one of these keys and locks and work out the skeleton keys myself.

That is a warded lock and the picks used are warded lock picks. A key to bypass the locks is just a warded lock pick of one variation or another depending on the lock itself.

The "skeleton key" you keep referring to it as is usually known as a bypass key for the bit key locks from up to hundreds of years ago.

I was thinking that if you got one of those blanks in the link I provided, you could make your own by measuring.

I couldn't get the video to play as the net is slow tonight, but look at the bottom of the video and you will see a reference to Sparrow Lockpicks. Search the site for warded pickset and you will find both skeleton keys and picks.

I do note on googling "skeleton keys" that the term is used not only for keys used to bypass warded locks, but for any old style warded lock key. The latter use is incorrect. The very term "skeleton key" implies that the key has been reduced to a thin form, thereby avoiding the wards of the lock.

Hmm ! only one thing to keep in mind about skeleton keys ... a key that as been stripped down to work in other warded locks ! or cut to bypass all wardings

Re: Are skeleton key templates available?

It seems that the word skeleton key has undergone a metamorphis in recent years. Like the way the word gay used to mean happy.

As stated above it used to refer to cut down keys for old warded locks. Now it seems to mean any - old - warded lock key.

There are some things available like that.

Eg. this. Sorry about the quality of the picture but you can see what they are. I think they are called skeleton jigglers.

Then there are these ( commonly available) but you can make your own by grinding off all except the top or top two levers on the key.

If you scroll down to the last part of the photostream you will see one of the best collections of bit key beards I know of.

beards is a word I got from that site just now while looking, I suppose flag means the blank before its cut.

hope this control c control v worked for me this time.

The yahoogroups locksports group is mostly no longer curated, its been abandoned for years. but there are some photos there that I posted, look for a bunch of my picks on the top of the pamphlet called "the art of manipulation.

hope this helps the guy who wanted the templates

Re: Are skeleton key templates available?

I saw them yesterday on the site and then after leaveing the site and trying to get back to it, I got the 404 too. I cant explain the internet, just this morning I googled flourourocil prices and saw that the tube of skin cancer medicin that I got from the VA was priced between 110 and 185 dollar at different pharmacies.
then about five minutes later, after telling this so someone, I tried to get back to that page and the prices were closer to 45 to 90 dollars,
whats going on, I don't know. same site, different information. anyway I get the med free, but I was suprised at how much a tube like toothpaste of the stuff was listed at on the first try.

My guess is that if you go to that yahoo group and look for the photos, which are linked to at the top of the page I think and go for the photo stream you can see them scrolled down as far as half way or more.
I'll go to the yahoo group now and see if copy and paste can work for me this morning.

I hope this works now

I just checked the link and the templates are at the bottom of the scroll then I get back here and the link is now expressed with part of it missing, not the link I posted and then checked, this address now has part of it in .......

internet, needs redesign, its primitive, not secure, not even reliable on addresses

if you get to the yahoo locksports group, click photo, just under that is albums, and to the left is photo stream, scroll all the way to the bottom. the bit key templates were there minutes ago, then the link i typed above got automagically changed to strip out part of it and replace it with a few periods. I wish NSA would quit fucking around with the internet. why don't they just watch porn like the GCHQ guys do

Re: Are skeleton key templates available?

rai, I got to the Yahoo locksports page by typing https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/locksports/ but I can't access the photos. It may be 'cos I'm doing this on a mobile phone. I'll try it on an actual PC tomorrow.
