Sargent Keso (Dimple)

Got myself a Sargent Keso lock which I have played around with for just a bit so when ill have more time expect it in the lock slaying thread :)

The lock is in ok condition cosmetically, the cylinder and pins work baby butt smooth however the shackle gets stuck. It wont rotate freely in the open position and after spraying WD40 it started to work a bit smoother for a little bit then it got worse. It wont lock and if i force it, it gets stuck half way so I can see the ball bearing cuts on the shackle half way. I have a feeling it may be the ball bearings or dirt in the bearings. After the WD got deep inside, lots of dirty and some metal tiny pieces started to come out.

Does anyone know the internals of this lock? How can I fix this problem?

Re: Sargent Keso (Dimple)

Keso locks have pins on 3 sides, the key is reversible. Not an easy pick but a few have done it.
I'll take a look at one of mine and see if I can figure out the locking mechanism in the shackle.

3 pins on top and 4 on bottom (or visa versa) and I thought the 3 pins on the side were dead for key control. Are they not???

Re: Sargent Keso (Dimple)

I should have 4 pins on each side and 4 on top. All 12 are active.

Re: Sargent Keso (Dimple)

The absence of a cut/dimple on the key does not mean there is no pin corresponding to that position in the lock. It could be a 0 depth pin. I do not know if a 0 cut in the Keso system needs material to be removed from the key.

You will find some locks, especially dimple locks with many pin pairs, which use positional master keying. In these instances, you will find empty chambers in some locks. Positional master systems were often employed with Kesos.

A fully populated Keso has two rows of 5 pins & one of 4 pins. A Keso 2000S Omega has three rows of 4 pins + the omega pin.
