My portable pick set

Hi guys,it has been a while since my last post...

I would like to show my idea for a portable pick set. It has been made from some knives,I've tested it against some locks and it's working pretty well.

The picks are copied from some HPC (the anodized aluminium handle ones).

No dimple picks yet but I suppose I could get along with the half diamond.

Here are the images, thanks for watching

Re: My portable pick set

Nice work. But will say that your Gonzo "deep hook" is too deep - it looks like it won't fit in very many keyways. You might want to thin down the shanks on all of them or the shank will be oversetting pins in the front while you are trying to pick the rear pins. I like how you use a spring to hold one end together with the twist-lock on the other.

Re: My portable pick set

You're absolutely right,I left the long hook oversized until I decide how long it should be.

The next step would have been to sand down the shanks as you pointed out,but I got lazy and left them as they were.
Sure enough, the front pins tend to be messed up pretty easily

I'll sand them down this weekend.
Thank you for your advices!

Re: My portable pick set

Glad could be of service.

The height of a Gonzo is about 250% the height of the shaft of the pick.

I'm glad you like it
I must say I was a little worried about the unbalanced weight of the unused picks when picking ,but they rest nicely on your hand and don't get in the way

Re: My portable pick set

I would add the Bogota.
Your set looks to have enough weapons for SPP.

and Bogotà will be!

Properly used,it's a terrific tool, even if I prefer the subtle art of cursing while spp :soldier: :mortise2:

Sounds like you have more experience at picking than you admit.

Re: My portable pick set

Well, sometimes "talking" to a lock persuades it to give up...and then it's "opening dance" time! Anyway,I'm far behind you masters of lockpicking. I humbly bow before you.

Re: My portable pick set

Well don't bow before me! I'm only an intermediate picker. But you are correct about needing to verbally convince the lock to open.

Re: My portable pick set

Ciao Andrea, Long time no see...

I like how you used that hole on the blade, usually hidden in the plastic handle, to keep the picks together. And as Gordon said, I also like the spring.

About you cursing at locks, I have a "zen" approach: if I can't open the lock I just put it aside. Its moment will come.

Cheers :)
