I try to wedge it tight, but not too tight or the handle will break. My old pick worked without glue for a year, and then I had to add a drop of superglue to fix it.
The new pick was just held by friction when I took the pictures. Just to be sure, after fire hardening the bamboo I added some contact glue.

Here is the latest set I made with my new wet grinder. You can see the picks during the shaping and testing process, and the finished set.
This hook is thinner and steeper than my previous ones, and I find it works a lot better. Of course you must be gentle with it!

Very nice! Looks like a devastating hook (and a nice 'test' lock too).

p.s. The bamboo still treatin' ya well?

Thanks for the compliments Oldfast. Yes, the bamboo is still my favorite material, but it's difficult to find it all year around. A few years ago I planted a small bamboo in my backyard. I use that when it's ready, so supply is limited. It's a very "local" source.
