Does the shape of saw rakes and snake rakes matter?

I was wondering if the shape of these things mattered before I go on making them.

yes,correct shaping is essential to making effective rakes..
although random changes can sometimes yield desirable results...
(it never hurts to experiment..)

I would imagine so looking at all the standard rakes I see, but like wiz said, don't be afraid to experiment... that's half the fun of it for me. I'm thinking of making one based on a bump key?
