Made a new wallet set - my old one wasn't very good (they were some of the first picks I ever made)...

I didn't do as much sanding as I normally would, but they're still pretty smooth.


The double sided wrench (titanium) is new - I need to make a better one, but it works. The other wrench is aluminum.


The bottom one was something new I wanted to try - thinning out just the pick shaft from a thicker piece of metal:


Now that I know I can get the pick shaft thinned out and keep the thickness uniform, I plan on doing this with some thicker metal.


The smaller picks are made from band saw blade, the long one is some stainless I found (wasn't marked, so I'm not sure what it is - it's pretty hard though).
I have a bunch of 1/8" full hard 301 that I want to make a pick out of. That should be a nice handle thickness if I can get the shaft thinned out evenly (that one won't be for the wallet though)...

The largest one, I didn't really make planning on putting it in my wallet, but it fit - so what the hell.

Those are awesome, I especially like the wrenches. My bitch thinks the picks look like whales.

They do look like whales. I should engrave a mouth and eyes on them, lol.


(I think I actually will do that on at least one of them, just for laughs.)

I just tried to engrave a mouth & eye on one of them - not too bad, but I think I messed it up a little.
That is something that should be done before sanding & polishing, lol.

I do use that shape handle a lot though, so I'll try it again next time I make picks.

Thanks LSA. That pick you made from a knife blade is what made me finally try to thin out some thicker metal to make a pick. Pretty soon I'll try one from 1/8" steel.

Josh those are nice I like paddle shaped handles I Aquired some industrial metal ban saw blades 20 of them they are 2 inches wide by 12 feet long they dont rust very much which tells me they are an alloy carbon steel I haven't made picks with them yet but it makes nice carving tools . I would send you some if you want it for free I got lots. just need your info it would make great tension wrenches too. The blades are very hard to bend and are twice as thick as a hack saw blade .

I'd imagine there's a much more efficient method?

I used a die grinder with 100 grit sanding disks, then red (medium) ScotchBrite pads once it was pretty close.

I just did one pass, flip it, one pass, flip it, etc...

Ah yes... not only much easier, but much more precise I'm sure.
I figured you'd have access to some nice shit to work with. lol
