My $3.50 jacknife set

So this is just a first round for my cheapest design for a jacknife lockpick set. I purchased a collapsable allen wrench set at the local dollar tree (where all things are $1) and at big lots i purchased a pack of 10 hacksaw blades for $2.50. Now that i know it can work, i will make a mark2 documented from beginning to end. But, without furter delay, here is the mark1

Lastly, with just one pick out, ready to open a lock


More picks can easily be added and for $4.50 total, this can make 2 complete jacknife sets with 10 picks in each set. So, let me know what you guys think.

Looks neat, I'll have to see if they have them at my local bought 4 from a non-local DollarTree. I don't have experience with a grinding wheel, but I wouldn't mind having a cheaper set of hex wrenches than I already have anyway and a spare 1 or 2 to play with.

Place for tension wrench(s)? (now that i have some, I can troubleshoot)

Thumbscrews are nice, but would possibly drive up the cost too much and may not be long enough, unless you could find them cheaper than $0.25 to $1 each

Looks like it'd be a fuck of a thing to use with that screw though, have you not got any shorter ones that'll sit flush with the handle? I could see that screw driving me insane lol... although in saying that, I like how you left some beef on the picks to hold onto so you get better feedback and control out of them as opposed to using the big handle. Come to think of it, maybe the screw doesn't get in the way after all. Hmm

The bolt actually doesn't get in the way at all. I plan on getting a smaller bolt eventually, but it serves good to tighten the handle so the pick can be held in place better without the need of a screwdriver.

Really cool idea... id love to see more pictures and whatnots.

I would cut the bold more flush with the handle and maybe spotweld another piece of metal on it (like an L) so you could use the other metal like a lever to tighten (or loosen) the handle... it wouldnt cost much more if you knew how to attach it

Part of the plan is to make the bolt flush with the handle and potentially integrate the tension wrench so that it can loosen/tighten the bolt. If i had a spotwelder, i could totally attach a piece to the bolt so that it could do that and it would also work as a pocket clip as well. going to possibly figure something out like that for the mark 2 or mark 3. I may even use an epoxy as a quick fix to make that happen. You guys are just so full of ideas, it freggin awesome!

Like it clear' had thought about doing just the same , never got round to it (i'm so lazy) on the nut and bolt issue would you consider a wing nut ? can be tightened and loosened by hand , or a circular nut like you find on some feeler guages mate !

Given the majority of reviews I've read on store-bought jacknife sets... I'd never spend money on one.
But for $5 or less, you can't go wrong! Nice work. Love how you kept such a small budget in mind.

Its funny, I didn't originally think jack knife set when I bought the allen wrench set, I thought compact key holder. Also, I've used other jackknife sets and they are all crap compared to this one, imo
