DIY - Redneck Pinning Tray / Plug Holder

Hey All,

I finally tore apart an old door handle lock.

I've been tinkering with re-pinning and such. So I decided
I needed something better for holding pins and such.

So an idea was born!

Lumpy's Redneck Pinning/Plug Tray Ver. 1.0

This cost me $0.00. 20 Minutes to make.

I took a 5" chunk of 2"x4" and drilled seven 1/4" holes 2" deep into
the side. I then "attempted" to drill two more 1/2" holes about
1.5" in from the other side.

I then chopped it slightly off center with my saw, boxed off the
edges and sanded.

As you can see my 2 side plug areas didn't work as planned. So I
took a drum sander bit to them. I'll perfect this with Ver. 2.0.

Functional.

Enjoy!

Lumpy,
Good job on the gluing, sanding and design. And it floats! Nice grain patterns on the wood, any varathane/ wood stain going on?

Re: DIY - Redneck Pinning Tray / Plug Holder

Thanks everyone. Really I just slapped this together to get by for now.

Ver. 2 is in the works. Thinking separated pin slots (drilled from both
sides) and 4 plug locations (again drilled from both sides).

Maybe a better piece of wood than a scrap chunk of 2x4. lol

This is awesome, especially being "off the cuff". One thought for version 2.0, most commercially available trays have the ability to hold plugs with keys inserted. If you put a key in the plug you'll see where a slot needs to be. This really is a very handy design feature. Keep up the terrific work. I'm looking forward to future creations.
