MOD: Not sure this is in the right sections, not so much homebrew, more addition.

I know a lot of people think the Jack Knife is just a gimick or a fad, but it is pretty cool to have and will probably end up in my glove box with my pick gun, more for emergency use, might even end up in my break away bag, ANYWAY

So the one key factor I do not like about the jack knife is the tension wrench. I like to use a thinner tension wrench with a shorter bend to fit into the top keyway of a lock, I pick mostly Americans right now and this is my little mod to store a "top keyway tensor" in my Jack Knife along with the normal one:

Using a 1/8 inch wiper blade I broke it off at 2 3/4 inches. The bend is 1/4 inches leaving the length at 2 1/2 inches. As you can see in the pictures this is very doable for top keyway picking.

Here is it going together-

I like it.. I really want to try making a switchblade pick out of a real switchblade knife.. I just can't find one with the right properties

Nice, I was thinking of doing the same thing for mine, i had bough my bro one of the plastic jack knife-o-like dealies and likeed how it had the smaller tesion wrench on it. Question for you, do you think the jack knife picks would stand up to being narrowed out to make them more europe friendly?

Not a clue, i could see if you took the time to evenly sand them they could, you can change out the picks, though I havnt' found out how, so I imagine you could get a euro pick and modifity it to work in there. I bought a spare hook pick for mine just in case I break it but have no clue YET how to change it out.

To change picks, use a pin punch and tap the pivot pin out. Reinstall the same way using a wider pin punch. I used a lockset srtike plate to tap the pin out over a screw hole. Worked for me.

Neat WolfSpring. I just picked up a Jack Kife and might give that a try.

I would really like to try to make some of my own picks for it. I'll have to put it on the list. :-)

Does it have two functions? A jack and a knife? That is why its called jackknife?
