help with hooks

I just made my first attempt at three homebrew hooks. The shapes turned out okay after painstaking effort, but my knowledge of metal working is minimal at best. Whats the best way to put a good shine on 'em?

sand paper not sure the grain count but fine grit sand paper(wet/dry)

yeah, im sanding them down now, im just not sure how or what to use for the whole polish process.

yes, the higher the grit the shiner your picks will become... once you are up to like 2000 grit, they will shine like a mirror... some of the more impressive shiners around here use higher grit than that

ah,i see. im not noticing much difference yet. Time to change to higher grit.

What type of metal did you use? Can you show us some pics of what they look like right now? It is possible that you need to go down in grit, not up.

im using old hacksaw blades. unfortunately, i dont have ability to send pics right now. i have only been sanding for about 40 min, i presume it takes many repititions though. i should have taken metal shop in school instead of chasing the ladies. Or both.

if there is a scratch you need the sandpaper 2 be enough 2 remove that scratch, then when you can't do anything else w that grit, change to a smaller till all the scratches of the previous grit are gone... Then use another one 2 remove the scratches of the previous grit and so on

if you get it completely clean and smooth with the smallest grit andpaper and don't like it you can use the buffer pad on a dremmel, though I always get them where i like them with sand paper

I have found that with the finer grit sandpaper, lightly sanding will help remove small scratches and buff atthe same time.
