This is my latest pick. I used J.B. Weld to attach the brass handle. Tooly says its gonna fall apart so I figured I should take some pics before I use it. Sorry about the picture quality...Hope you enjoy anyway.

these are beautiful picks brother.they really are. jb weld will hold just fine, i just used some on my radiator last week in my jeep. 10 dollars of jb weld saved me 400 bucks for a new readiator. itll hold. did you scuff up the parts that are attached before you applied the jb? itll hold either way. great job!

Nice work, looks great, I think the JB weld will hold just fine, I have used it to make some crazy repairs and have had good results.

Nice grind! You must have spent forever sanding it to get that even distal taper. Do you feel there's any significant advantage of the brass, or new steel?

Just thinking out loud here, jruther2, but here's a thought: Why not just silver solder the pick and the handles together?

It seems a foregone conclusion that you could easily solder both of the brass handles to the "blade" of the pick before the final polishing stage.

That way you could solder everything together, give it a rough sanding to smooth things out and then do a fine, final polish.

Just a suggestion.

They're beautiflul. If those wallet picks you sent me are anything to go by, I can only imagine how shiny and smooth these ones are!!

Thanks for all the kind words guys!

Yeah, I scuffed them up. I'm not really worried that its gonna fall apart, I've had good success with JB in the past.

Tooly, with no offense intended to anyone else, I value your impression of the pick the most. Thank you very much for taking note of my hard work. As far as advantages go, I haven't had much time to use the pick yet so I'll tell you what I'm hoping for. I hope that the brass will be comfortable with its smooth rounded edges and that the solid laminated handle will transfer an optimum amount of feedback. While most of the feedback is felt on the blade of the pick I do notice a difference in what I can feel in a lock when picking with picks of various handle materials and solid metal for a handle is as good as it gets in my opinion. As far as the VG1 steel goes...well, I think we can both agree that its not gonna bend and if I break it then there is obviously something wrong with my technique. This stuff is strong!

HC, I am ashamed to admit that I had not thought of soldering the handle to the blade. Thanks for the good advice. Prepare yourself for hate mail from my wife as I spend even more time in the garage trying out yet another method of applying handles. Also, I may have to crash at your place...
