Mask for Universal Pinning Kit for easy pinning

I have a universal 3-in-1 pin kit, and I rekey the occasional lock, but not enough to memorize the lengths of the pins. The chart they provide requires that I flip back and forth to see the depth number, then translate that to the pin length, then find it in the corresponding bin of the tray.

So I came up with this mask that fits over the bins so it will show me the exact number and position of the required pin for the manufacturer. I don't know if this is an original design or not, but something that I though up of in bed. Also, I supposed someone can also make their own up for their personal pin kits especially if you have the large universal kits.

What I had to contend with, cuts on one side, lengths and location on other side of the original guide card.

I think the best would be to create them on card stock, laminate it, then cut it out. I originally used transparency material for a more durable material, but I think having a opaque background would be better, but should be more durable, hence to laminate it.

Great idea. Are you planning in posting a PDF or templates?

This is a terrific idea but Lab beat you to it. Their universal kits have come with a similar mat for years. It is perforated so you can choose the pins you want. It would be perfect if it somehow would cling to the kit, like static.

Re: Mask for Universal Pinning Kit for easy pinning

I like the simplicity of it. There would need to be masks for the different LAB kits.

I think a static cling would be a problem when it picks up pins an springs, though.

Good thinking!
