Micra pick tool

Not sure if I ever posted this here before.. I got the idea from Compfx on his site. Got the Leatherman Micra on Ebay cheap and used a couple of donor picks. Take out the useless tweezers and replace them with the picks. I also took out the lanyard ring.

The screws have loctite on them from the factory, so heat them gently before taking them apart. 200 or 250 degrees F is enough. Or 100 to 150 degrees C. This softens the loctite and you can undo the screws with a couple of pairs of pliers. If the teeth are good on the pliers that's better so they don't slip.

Use the pieces you take apart as a template to drill and shape the picks so they fit. Give some thought to how you want the tool to be held when you are picking. Make sure you get the pick to face the direction you want.

I cleaned everything and put it back together with some Loctite. Now all you need is some way to include tension wrenches..

They are all stainless steel. So the little screws are pretty strong.

Heating the screws with a torch, just a bit, really helped them come apart. You could almost use a bic lighter. Not much heat is needed.

The hardest part was drilling the hole in the picks..

So lets hear some ideas for including a tension wrench with this..

Can you hide one underneath the picks and other tools when they are folded up? If the end of the tension wrench is short enough it shouldn't protrude.

What an awesome idea. I carry a micra on my keychain everywhere I go and I must say, I never thought of doing that. Great work.

oh, and my first thought was to use the tweezers as a TOK turning tool.
