STARRETT folding feeler gauge set

this is some of my first efforts at pickmaking
i still have this set to this day...(it has served me well)

Didnt you make a vid about this set? (like what seems a while back...)

Do you find that attached sets like that are harder to use? It seems that feedback would be impared and that the weight would cause the finer movments to be more difficult.

I mean, sets like that are super smexy and all, but it doesnt seem practical in use.

FANTASTIC WORK though.... I swear Wiz, you are like a fine jewler for lock picking tools...

yeah they can be a hinderance while attached, but they come apart in 2 seconds...

Looks great , i also made a similar set of 8 but found that only the thickest
3 or 4 worked well as the "slimmer" picks were too flimsy .
As for feedback on these (types of) picks , it really is poor
even if they look fantastic .

How do you get along with the very thinest one Does it buckle and flex.

no,i only used the thickest ones,and i used three different sets of feeler gauges (one set was a shorter set,and you can see them sandwiched between the picks themselves...)
there is still enough steel stock there to make a dozen or so more picks.
as for selling the set ,i would have to ponder that....

nice work bro! guess you got the gauge at canadian tire. I used the same material for making auto jigglers and the thin once for shims.

nope these were very expensive brit gauges ™starret. (they make some WICKED micro-measurement tools)
and yeah, the thin ones are always handy to have at hand...they have a million uses..

Yea, stuff from starrett is expensive. I don't think I would waste a set of those feelers on picks (especially when there's plenty of other materials available.)

in my opinion nothing is better for making picks than feeler gauge stock.
the steel quality is top notch,(you should have seen me trying to drill through the stuff)
i have found nothing better.
not to mention the sets i got were 5 bucks for the lot @ my local pawnshop =)
i have used the picks MANY times more than i have used feeler gauges,
probably in my entire lifetime =/
so i dont really consider it a "waste"
i call it starting with high quality materials...(i just wish my pickmaking skills were a little bit better when i decided to butcher the feelers)
they could have been much better.

Yea, I agree with you. For 5$ it sounds like a amazing deal ! I haven't used feeler gauges at all my self, but the regular price for starrett feeler gauges is quite high (compared to other pick materials.)
