Tipene's Picks

Just thought I'd do a post of some of the Picks I've have been making lately. Most are made with Starret Feeler Stock (in various thicknesses) some with 301 Stainless Pick Blanks I bought off a member of a UK Lock Sport Forum. For those interested this is the original eBay listing (it's worth reading the description as it describes the Stainless steel used). The Seller still has blanks available as far as I know, although you will probably need to message him directly if you want to order any (as I did)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ONE-PROFESSIO ... 2385782076

The first 2 pictures show Picks made from 301 Stainless Pick Blanks, with Aluminium Handles. You can see the first Pick is a copy of a Sparrows Euro Short Hook and the second a copy of a Peterson GEM.

The next pictures show Picks made from Starrett Feeler Stock, with Wiper Blade reinforced, Shrink Wrapped Handles. You can see the first Pick is a copy of a Sparrows Monstrum Attila. I made this in 0.020" with a longer shank as I wanted better access to European Locks with tight parametric key-ways (the Sparrows version is in 0.025" with a shorter shank).

The bottom 2 pictures show Picks all made with 301 Stainless Pick Blanks. The deForest has had an Aluminium handle added. I will be doing the same to the others,

These Picks are all hand filed using a 1/2 Round Bastard file, a selection of Needle files and finished using various grades of Wet n Dry Sand Paper.

Cheers
Tipene

Thanks for the kind words.

They all work well, although I must say the Medium Hook (with the Red/Pink Handle) works especially well in American 1100 Padlocks. I made it in 0.018" Starrett so I could pick unobstructed from the bottom of the key way.

Those look nice enough for surgery! Can I ask, how are you attaching your aluminum handles to the steel?

I made it this Pick this weekend. It is a Short Hook that was inspired by a Southord Max 07B . This is made with 301 Stainless (in 0.025"). The handle is Aluminum.

Sorry about the reverse order of the photos. I thought they would appear in the order I attached them. I'll know for next time

Beautiful picks. Excellent work.

It's been quite a while since anyone posted some home brews.

These little loverlies have made it worth the wait.

Just started experimenting with wooden handles recently. Woodworking is not a strong point of mine but I thought I'd give it a go .

This is a Short Hook in 0.025" 301 High Yield Stainless, all hand filed and shaped. The handle is made from 3mm Birch Plywood with a Paua Shell inlay. The rough looking "T" is for Tipene

This is a Medium Hook in 0.025" made with 301 High Yield Stainless and using the same Birch Plywood Handle.

This was made for a friend as a Giveaway at the recent OzLockcon (Check out Michael Maynard’s Gorilla Picking YouTube Channel) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCajJsi ... eDAcbozlMQ
