Little Bog for small pad locks

One of the joys of making your own picks (and not using templates) is that every now and then one will come out not quite as you intended (usually the result of a mistake) or the stars are aligned just right and will turn out to be almost magical in its ability to open locks.

When I started making picks, I made a snake that opened just about any lock I put it in, in a couple of seconds, till it broke. :wah:

I’d like to share another happy little “not quite what I intended” pick that absolutely slays small pad locks like Yale 35mm, Lockwood 45 etc. Even the new ones that have spools. Pretty good on 140s too.

A couple of jiggles and rakes and it sets all but one (or two) pins and the first peak will lift that with just a little push.

It is a shallow twin peak Bog style. The peaks are a bit closer and it is not as deep (overall) as regular picks.

This is the latest one I made.

In this picture you can compare it to a Sparrow snake (on top) and a regular Sparrow two peak Bog style on bottom).

Like I said. They slay small pad locks (I’ve tested it on a lot of them) so if you want to try something different……..

They work well on national mailbox locks as well.

Nice! That looks slick. One of these days I'll have to try my hand with pick makin' again.
