A pick just for Americans? :) Hmmm, we should give this pick a name! But what?...

Maybe........ the AMERICAN WHORE? Or horror, if you prefer. lol

Alright, alright... I'll leave it then. I cut out another brass blank, I guess I need a hook now. :slam:

Re: Aedalas' picks and stuff

Getting a little faster, I only have about 10 hours in this one. Still a ridiculous amount of time though.

I went with the same brass for the handle but this time I went back to the 301 stainless. Something about the feeler gauge just felt weak. Nothing I could put my finger on, it just feels like it would be. I'm probably going crazy though. I used brass for the rivets and sanded them flush with the body, you can just barely make them out if you're really looking for them, but they're next to invisible. The underside where the blade inserts into the handle is recessed slightly, I made the handle before checking to make sure my steel was wide enough. It was not. I changed the shape some (it started off a lot more round at the front of the handle) but I didn't want to take any more off so I'm stuck with the slight recess, oh well.

As usual my photography skills (lack thereof) have not improved. At least it's shiny.

What good is a tool you can't use though? The steel I'm using can take it anyways, I've yet to see any of it get scratched. And if it does get scuffed up, I made them so hopefully I'd be capable of fixing them. :P

Re: Aedalas' picks and stuff

Nice and weighty, I kinda like it. Way heavier than any of my other picks. Much better feedback too.

Re: Aedalas' picks and stuff

If anybody is interested, the newest one weighs in at 283 grams. I didn't think to take any others with me to compare though so I'm not sure that really tells you much. It's heavy for a pick, that's my official description.

Cool. I was wondering what the actual weight was. It looked like it could be on the heavy side, but pictures can be deceiving.
But as always when it comes to picks... it's ALL about preference. Some may find a heavier pick hinders their feel a bit,
while others will find it to be very advantageous. If you're kickin' ass with it, I'd say the weight isn't really an issue.

Re: Aedalas' picks and stuff

I kinda like the weight. I'm not sure it helps or hinders picking any but you know when you pick up something and it's light and you just KNOW it's made cheaply? Yeah, these don't give me that feeling at all.

Well not with that attitude you can't. I have been building things for a long time, but I honestly believe it's simply a matter of patience. Accept the fact that it's going to take you a week to make a pick and you're off to a good start. My problem is that when I start to get close I want to rush things. Like with this last one I was at a standstill until I could get to work the next day and put the rivet holes in it with the drillpress, it was a damn struggle to not go grab my cordless drill and do it right then. I fucked it up last time I did that and I'm real happy now that I didn't give in and do it this time. It's not just patience in the overall scheme, take your time on EVERY SINGLE STEP. You're not an hourly employee here, slow the hell down and REALLY focus on each little thing you're doing.

I mean you in the collective sense btw, not you specifically nozza.
