STANLEY ™ laminated padlock w. "anti-pick pins" PICKED OPEN!

a stanley laminated padlock SC4 schlage™keway, which i had a hell of a time picking...
and i just couldn't figure out WHY....???
"Just a sc4,six-pin...pickem' all the time"...i thought to myself....
(i went to ™Stanley's site and they also own S&G™,and BEST™!)
check out the specs.

http://www.stanleyhardware.com/default. ... inated.htm

They claim that there were "anti pick pins" in there, and this lock is a 5 out of 6 security rating, but i could NOT detect any sign of the usual security pin suspects..no shrooms,no spools,no serrations!
I could, however see that the keypins were stainless steel.(a feature not often found in cheaper locks.)
anyway QUITE some time later i popped it, and was dying to get a look at what was giving
me such a hard time..( i actually thought they were lying about there being any anti pick pins in there, because i have actually found this before..outright LYING on packaging, etc.)
at any rate here is the lock, picked open, disassembled, and ready to be keyed.
take a look what they have done,,similar to what ™Yale does with their different sized spool pins according to the depth of the key cut ,Stanley™ have done so with highly polished regular pins, and added a true double spool serrated (not a barrel pin.) on each end of the row of pins.
all in all, IMO very well done, for entry-level stuff. A hell of a great pick!
I will update this post with key made, and a link to a vid of me picking it...
and the keymaking process ,if requested.

Ok, so how does the dual spool feel when compared to a regular spool (when picking)?[/font]

Does it almost want to feel like a serrated pin?

Thanks for the photos Awol, that's good info to know

these bind right up, as opposed to slipping into false, like a spool,an have way more "catch" to them, and cause you to reset a lot.

not in the least...it feels as close to a true set as anything ive ever picked...they give almost no false, and mimic the shearline INCREDIBLY well..they will take time to master.
and for a lock that retails for 30 bux , i really gotta hand it to them..they went all out..
(more little security tweeks than you can shake a stick at.)
if you get a chance give one a go...

Thanks for the photos Awol, that's good info to know.

Double spool... very cool! I shall be looking out for a Stanley lock in the future.

Great review as always. The pins close-ups make all the difference. My camera hates tiny things.

It always surprised me that more manufacturers aren't very good at this. Getting a false set on a lot of locks makes you wonder who they think they're fooling.

I'm kinda impressed with Stanley's sneakyness on such a low priced lock.

That seemed like a tough nut to crack with those beasty double serrated spool pins. That would be nightmare time for me!

Well, you have been a huge inspiration to me. It's like when you set your mind to pick a lock you wont stop until it's defeated and that is something I respect. You have awesome picking skills and lots and lots of patience, keep it up.
