Corbin Russwin from Selim Impressioned

Selim sent me a 6-pin Corbin Russwin mortise cylinder, along with it came two blanks, so I thought I would give a go at impressioning it. It took a while...as you can see from the key there are some deep cuts. Also the 1st cut being zero bitted threw me off, I spent a while trying to make it mark... Anyway, I got a working key out of it, this shall be a bitch to pick.
I used a vice grip to hold the key, and a set of needle files, round, flat and triangle to make the cuts.

amazing job Chris!
Was this your first impressioning?
all around stellar job, though...the zero cuts would have screwed me right over!

Chris, great job man. Thanks for sharing that. And your right, that bitting looks like it could give you a run for your money. I've only impressioned a couple of locks, but it's very exciting when that plug starts turning. Not much experience with Russwin. There were a few in the box of locks I recieved few SlickPick. Haven't played with em' yet, but noticed one has ball bearings for keypins. I assume this has nothing to do with security, more for longevity and smooth operation. But I did wonder how that would affect impressioning. Does that one have ball bearings? Again, great job.

I haven't looked inside it yet, I won't until I get it picked open. Though I do recall Selim telling me he threw one or two ball bearings in there. I think they are for smooth operation, but I'm pretty sure as long as you bind up the pins good and tight then bump up and down it shouldn't have an effect on impressioning. I guess this one took me quite a while, the marks weren't that easy to make out, especially once you started filing, the ball bearings could have caused that.
