AM3 blank question

I posted this in that other place too, just looking for if anyone else has seen this.

So I'm filing down my AM3 key blank to start an impression just to make the top smooth and I notice something I notice every time I smooth out my keys, two distinct marks that look like pin marks, but they are not. I just ordered calipers so when they arrive I'll measure to see if they happen to line up where the pins would, but these have a habbit of throwing me off and I can't keep smoothing out or the key will not be cut right, well it could be but still.

The key has not been put in the lock these marks appeared as i filed it down a little to get a smooth look. Anyone else come accros this?

Re: AM3 blank question

I have. It's probably just impurities in the brass that show up as you smooth a surface.

Re: AM3 blank question

I prefer red sharpie myself, that is great advice, I don't do that much any more with the sharpie was just wondering if anyone else had come accross this. Is it just this blank or does it happen alot?
