Newest invention!

.......the USB Key Impressioner. This is a device that basically maps out the interior of an old-fashioned lock and saves the information in digital format, which can later be used by a key cutter to create a key for said lock.........

Alternative Production Solutions (APS) is working on an Electronic Key Impressioner (EKI). The EKI eliminates the “tedious job of manual lock impressioning". Instead, this USB device “electronically maps the inside of a lock” and provides a key code within a matter of seconds. With a key code in hand it’s a simple matter for a locksmith to cut a working key.

Sounds too good to be true so it probably is. How does it know what depth the pin is, do you pick the lock first??? Way to many variables for it to actually work I think.

Interesting if it's real and actually works reliably. Even the one in Barry's article wasn't reliable according to the people who made it.

hello every one, this usb thing can not work its impossible, first you have got to take in consideration the profile then pin thickness and then core diameter ,besides all that all the pins sit on the same line in pin tumbler locks, the only type of lock that this would be practical would be wafer locks as only wafers can be optically read due to their height difference in the lock, but with a lot of practice and a scope you can read wafers fairly easily.

From the manufacturer's website (http://www.alternativeproductsolutions.net/)

The Electronic Key Impressioner, or EKI, is a device designed to eliminate the tedious job of manual lock impressioning. EKI electronically maps the inside of a lock using a scanning tool and unique computer software, providing a key code within a matter of seconds. This will allow locksmiths to operate more efficiently than competitors, not only decreasing time spent per job, but also making work in low light conditions vastly easier. EKI can also be used on other types of wafer tumbler locks, provided it does not use a sidebar.

The system comes complete with a full set of the most common vehicle lock keyway inserts, USB cable and the latest lock mapping software. Future systems will include inserts for other types of impressionable locks. The EKI system will be available to locksmiths and authorized security professionals in late 2010.

Yeah, that's the one that Barry's blog showed. Pretty neat really.

I read that as well, nice piece, so it would be good if it did actually work.

i know a few locksmiths that use lock probes but the eez readers are almost as quick and a whole lot cheaper..
