Looking for American R2 Blanks

Trying to find four or five blanks for the restricted American R2 (6 pin) keyway.

Have an American Series 747 padlock with that keyway, but no blanks to make a key with. Due to the very high return spring strength, don't really want to use a modified blank when impressioning, as it seems it would likely break.

That profile wouldn't be hard to make. I've machined a lot harder versions.

Thats their restricted keyway? looks wide open to me lol. Ill check with my guy and let you know. He has some restricted Master blanks so there is a glimpse of hope.

That worn out looking keyway looks like it has seen many attempt to impression it. As wide open and used looking as it is I would just try to pick it open and then make a key or just replace it with a shinny new cyld. Didn't see the overall condition of the lock so hard to say for sure what I would do. Unless there is more than one lock on that key I would likely just replace it. I'll ask around to see if I can get blanks for it.

what is the nasty looking pins either side of keyway for GW - don't look designed that way may be a cross eyed locksmith

It never ceases to amaze me how difficult the American restricted blanks are to come by. They have been around a long time, are relatively simple and as far as I know, not patented. There must be a powerful agreement between American/Master and blank manufacturers to not produce them. I'm surprised any such agreement holds up with the foreign manufacturers.

The R2 is used for utility companies so the distributors still hold to letter of authorization etc.

Those shiny pins on either side of the keyway are factory hardened steel pins to make drilling harder.

The lock cylinder is exclusive to the 747 and 748 series locks. Would love to get another cylinder for the lock (and put it in a 748 lock in my collection), but they are a pain to get.

Therefore, have no intention of drilling that lock cylinder. Plus, I'd rather keep the lock original.

Picking is difficult due to the strength of the return spring. By the time I have enough tension to bind the pins, I can hardly feel anything. How strong is the return spring? The only tension wrench I have strong enough to even turn the plug enough to bind the pins is the thicker Peterson Pry Bar.

Not Sure If you Found The R2 But Here Is A Seller On Ebay That Has The R7 & R8 Cylinders and Key For Under $10.00 Maybe He Has Some R2 In His stock ..
