This is whats left of a bypass tool I bought. Was a nice tool, well made. Handle will be useful somewhere down the line.
Its a "Force Tool" for Kwikset Smartkey Deadbolts. Guess I used to much force.
Wondering if anyone has had same experience.
Twisted the working end off with first lock.
Did look on their website to see if they sold replacement parts. Didn't see any.
Surely don't want to replace it if the end result is the tool doesn't work or the locks have been modified to prevent this attack.
According to the directions its just me.

Thanks

I have a KTT-4 tool and have opened only two locks with it. You have to work it a bit at a time. You cannot rotate to open in a single turn. Also, I think that Kwikset has improved on the plastic internals that allowed this bypass in the first place.

Thanks, I've never been known to have a gentle touch. Will buy a replacement and try to go easy on it.

Major Manufacturing has discontinued selling the ktt-4.
So what are the new Smartkey bypasses?
Guess it's back to the drill.
I know about the paper clip through the slit punched in the back of key-way but have never tried it in the field. When you see the demo the bolt is not under friction of being in strike plate on the jamb side. I'm thinking the paperclip will bend instead of opening.

Know what I'm saying? Other than the ktt-4 ever use any other techniques? Anyone? :???:

Not really bypass.. but I insert part of a blank cut at all 3's. Then turn with a screwdriver. Super easy to open that way.

Somewhere Deviant had a video of his first use of the tool. It snapped on him first time. Second tool worked a little better. The wafers in the lock are fairly weak and can be snapped if they are just raised about half-way and then forced. I've not tried it myself though.

The best way to use the KTT-4 is to rotate until it binds, go another 5 degrees of rotation, then back to center. It has always taken me a few minutes of patient twisting back and forth to overcome the plastic parts on the inside. I do wonder why they didn't use a more robust metal.

No problem dude - the all-3-cut key works very well - I was actually reeeeally surprised it was so easy. Almost as easy as turning it with the working key.
