Master Lock BumpStop Video

Most of you would have seen this video before but i thought this would be usefull to begginers as it shows a really good animation on how the bumping process works and what master lock is doing to prevent such an occurance.

Re: Master Lock BumpStop Video

Yea you can get them at my lockie shop. The video by master lock is actually wrong when it shows how bumping works. It shows the entire pin stack shooting up into the bible and then the lower pins dropping below the shearline. In reality, the bottom pins stay stationary and transfer their enegy to the top pins which are propelled into the bible. Just like when you are playing pool and hit a row of billiard balls, only the last one will move.

Some people argue that the bottom pins do enter the bibble, but if this was true than you wouldn't be able to bump a lock upside-down because bumping would rely on gravity.

No I have not, but I bet it could be done. You might have to cut multiple bump keys with higher cuts in different places but it could probably be done. But the bump stop pins are used in regular master cylinders which are easier to pick than bump anyway.

yeah i know what you mean, i don't really class the lower end masters as locks, just overpriced rivets and plates.

Re: Master Lock BumpStop Video

Does bumping ruin a cylinder! I had a Master No. 5 padlock for my locker at work! I just put it on my locker on thursday and on friday I couldn't get into my locker, the key wouldn't work! On Saturday I brought my picks and picked it open! But the padlock is still not working, haven't took it apart yet! Lucky I kept my paycheck in my pocket and not in the locker that friday!

yup, it certainly does, if your constantly bumping the same lock then the pins and just gonna get worn down to nothing.

and if my pay cheque was in there i woulda bust the mo-fo down :D

Wow thats a great point. I personally haven't bumped (or picked one). Maybe I'll try to find one on ebay later.

Re: Master Lock BumpStop Video

yeah lock bumping is pretty awesome but a lot of people would argue that its kind of cheating in the lock picking world. a lot of lock pickers.. especially the good once like the challenge of picking a lock. most of them don't even rake unless they are doing it to get the offset.

Re: Master Lock BumpStop Video

Thanks for the vid Lew! I've never had that much sucess with bump keys, maybe it's the hammer, wood or screwdriver I am hitting them with that's stopping me?

Anyone ever made any good homebrew bump hammers that shock rarther than hammer?
