Un-Stamped Military locks

I recently bought a Commando Military lock (NSN-5340-00-158-3807, Order #1024). I took advantage of the Keypicking.com 2/1 promotion, so I received two (same model, keyed different) locks.

Both of the locks I received were missing the "US" stamp. I looked carefully to make sure it wasn't just lighter than I was expecting - but I could not see anything that looked like it could have possibly said US.

Now, I'm not too worried about it, but it was brought to my attention that some locks from this batch could have gone out on Government contracts, and missing stamps would probably not look too good...

I am posting this here (as well as emailing the company) to see if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

So, is it just me - or has anyone else received military locks with missing stamps?

The original military Commando lock I got had U.S. stamped prominently on it. Both of the military Commando locks I just received were lacking the U.S. stamp. So you are not the only one who noticed, Josh66.

Mine are stamped, but not very deeply. At first glance I thought they didn't have it until I shifted the angle of the light a bit.

I received a reply from CLC (the email I sent was basically the first post here, copy & pasted):

Josh,

Thank you for your email and correct observation of the locks you received. Government lock contracts are usually built 5,000-35,000 padlocks at a time and our system is in place to stamp either US or US SET on each lock. In this case, I did not pull from our manufactured stock, rather building your products myself after hours. It was my personal failure that resulted in your receiving two locks without stamps. I'm certain that if I had left the manufacturing to my team during the day, we would have followed our ISO-9002 standards for production and this would not have happened.

Please accept our apology and thank you again for calling us out on our quality.

Well that is really neat. I doubt the president of any other company would personally make our orders and ship them out. Now I really cant wait for my order to arrive.

It shows that Patrick Smith understands what is needed to lead a company. No job is too menial for the president to do himself. It tells the workers that THEIR job is important enough to the company that even the president will do it personally. It also prevents having resentment and the feeling that the management is 'too important/good to do my job'.

I do believe that is exactly what this means. Print out a copy of this thread and keep it with the locks.

It's not like you have an original collectible signed Bramah there or anything, but still, definitely cooler and more unique than getting any regular old lock off the production line!

Now I want one. lol
