Abloy Protec vending cylinder

With a Dremel:

abloy_cut.jpg

When I started to put it together it was all falling apart and I had a moment of "you idiot, a cut of more than 180 degrees lets the discs fall out!" And I was pissed because this took forever to make! Fortunately, in the end, I lucked out because the rods that make up the Disc Blocking System end up holding the discs in place. So it works fine.

One more thing: there is a bit of metal that needs to be kept because it holds the spacer discs in place.

Re: Abloy Protec vending cylinder

Well, to be honest I also used files, sandpaper, calipers, and pen. So not "only" a dremel. I followed a rather roundabout path to this, cutting a small window on each side then polishing, cleaning, reassembling. Then the next day I realized that I could actually make it one big window. The absolute worst part of the whole thing? The cutoff wheels are bigger than the maximum possible height of the window. So I had to cut a bajillion horizontal cuts! This was a test of the patience. Worth it though. I've ordered some polycarbonate tube to slip over the thing to protect it when it gets tossed in the locks bin. Of course it'll be much better without the protection, but better safe than sorry.

Proxxon is supposed to be much better. I'm gonna upgrade at some point since I dremel a lot.

Re: Abloy Protec vending cylinder

Really? You mean proxxon is better than the Dremel brand dremel?
I would have never thought.
Good to know, thank you. I will look into that the next time I need one :)

Re: Abloy Protec vending cylinder

Yeah, that's what I hear anyways. Proxxon has a speed regulator so it doesn't slow down when under load. People use it for homemade CNC because it has actual bearings rather than just plastic around the axle, so that the axle doesn't have any give. And it is supposed to be quieter.

I have to disagree here. The bearings in the Dremel are very good.

Proxxon do make very good rotary tools but their lower range stuff (handheld rotary tools) are comparable to Dremel. Once you start going up towards the Proxxon micro mills then they start getting better.

Dremel's have been used as CNC routers lots.
