Very nice that is a keeper.
I have several of these Corbin padlocks none are factory cut-aways.
Good pictures thanks for showing this.

I think 40's or 50's is probably about right.

That is a great piece of brass you have there! If you ever want to sell it, let me know! I have a thing for nice cutaway locks.

I wish the photos had been more clear. The top pins and springs are visible between the horizontal cuts(not in photos) and the bottom pins can actually be seen in 1 of the photos. The guts need to be cleaned.I'll hold on to it for awhile.

I see a lot of these cut-away padlocks on Ebay. The one posted here certainly looks factory. Someone on Ebay is making a big business on taking old antique brass padlocks and doing cut-away work. The average price is about $75.00 in my opinion. The work is done with some very precision cutting equipment. Everybody dances to a different tune; God knows I do. But, I find the practice destructive and I have learned to fight the temptation to take old locks apart. I usually learn that I could have opened the lock a different way and I end up pissed off at my self after destroying a lock . The key is to walk away, sometimes days or months, just to come back with a fresh attitude and plan of attack. I guess if these locks were original cut-away's (factory done), it wouldn't change anything from an antique perspective. Certainly, the re-sale value of doing your own cut-away work could never be sold as an original antique. But if there's a market for it, oh-well. Nevertheless, I find the entire practice as upsetting as those fake horse shoe padlocks being sold as "Lucky". I never pass off my keys as originals.
