some of my hand made cut aways

Here's a cheap KIK i did a few years ago

Image

Used the Dremel cutoff wheel to make it.

Here's an "ESD" (Abloy clone) from a coin op washer with a key made from a half round aluminum piece:

Same technique, Dremel tool. I need a mini mill to mess with, I could do some cool stuff with that!

Here's a Schlage with a little more detail:

Still kind of sloppy, but I'm doing the best with what I have.

Re: some of my hand made cut aways

If you want more accurate cuts with a dremel with less "bouncing" going on, switch hands. Keep your dremel stationary and move the cylinder into the cutting wheel. But nice cutaways, none the less.

Re: some of my hand made cut aways

Thanks for the compliments guys! The first cut away I saw was at a local locksmith. It was an Assa with the side milling on the key (don't remember exact model)
The locksmith told me he got it for buying alot of stuff from Assa Abloy, and I'd wanted one ever since. Being they cost $40-$60+, I haven't obtained a factory one yet, but hope to soon.

Re: some of my hand made cut aways

Have you done any SFIC cutaways?
femurat: They're called restricted for a reason...
Innerpicked: The more keys you carry, the more important you look
GWiens2001: Great video! Learned a lot about what fun can be had with a forklift and a chainsaw.
pmaxey83: but i first have to submit the proper forms for a new hobby to my wife

Re: some of my hand made cut aways

thats good work sir! if you are using a dremel tool i would suggest a precision extention. its basically a long cable that chucks into the top of the dremel and into a pen sized grip. i use mine every time I have to engrave one of my knives, i was skeptical at first and i made some adjustments to make it hold up better on a high setting but i'll never use the regular dremel short fat akward grip ever again. The small pen grip makes the dremel like 2ft long and it will go anywhere....now i feel like im making a craftsman commercial. heres a link

Fogcreature, thanks for the compliments! My dremel is the hang up kind with just such an extension. I love it! so much easier. I want to get a mini mill and learn how to do really professional cutaways sometime in the future.
