Re: My home made lock cut-aways and picks.

thats really impressive, what did you use to make the cutaways?

Nice eye for detail, I like what you've done there.

Re: My home made lock cut-aways and picks.

believe it or not these are the first locks i have ever cut. i cut them on a drill press with a slide vice. I am actually very new to this i just started lock picking about 2 mouths ago and am now addicted to it.

I got started when the place i work at got broken in to and know one could figure out how they got in. So we decided to change the locks. I talked to a lock smith and they recommended for me to get medeco and told me to look in to lock bumping as a way that someone could easily get in, so i did and it has led me to this. I have now picked my way to a American lock company 5260 series witch i have not bin able to get opened yet.

I can see this being a long term hobby. I really enjoy doing the cut-aways they fascinate me even thought they really dont help me with the lock picking process because i understand and have a good feel for the locks that i have worked with.

Not to through a sales pitch not that it is, but i am willing to cut locks in trade for picks if anyone is interested making my one is cool but i would like a collection of them.

Re: My home made lock cut-aways and picks.

Careful using a drill press like that. It works, but they aren't meant to put up with a horizontal force. If you plan to keep using it as a mill all I can suggest is go really damn slow and use as little pressure as possible. And use cutting oil (or something like it).

thanks and i know but trust me this is not the hardest thing i have done to my press and if worst comes to worst i will just have to replace the bearings no big deal it is a industrial press bearings are easy to replace.

but thank you again for looking out. :D

Those are sweet. I was lucky enough to get MOTO here to teach me to use the mill at our hacker space. He is a true craftsman and a stickler for detail. I'm sure we will see more badass stuff from him in the future. Are those a new set of picks? Do you ever sleep?

Re: My home made lock cut-aways and picks.

Wow! Welcome. Very nice cutaways, and the picks really stood out to me.
Very crisp, clean, precise cuts... and nice polishing. Then, I reached the
bottom of this thread and was blown away when you said you made em'
in "about an hour"!! Shit, it's taken me longer than that on just ONE! lol

I forsee some good shit comin' from you my friend. Glad you're here :D

Also, on the 5260, I'm no expert with American Locks, but they are one of my favorites.
This may or may not help ya pop it, but for what it's worth... viewtopic.php?p=58393#p58393

Re: My home made lock cut-aways and picks.

Thanks every one.

I am trying to find some more locks so if anyone has any laying around that you could stand to part with i would like to do some more cut-aways. i will cut you one in return for the locks as long as they are not junk.
