Finally got them finished... thanks to everyone who helped get these made, especially Gordon for the Keying and combinating!

How many hours do you put into each lock?

Well its actually quite a quick process after its figured out.... On this particular one it breaks down as follows:

10 minutes to disassemble and resembler the lock
9 minutes to cut the plug
14 minutes to cut the sleeve
21 minutes to cut the core housing
26 minutes to cut the body and engrave it
6 minutes to engrave the key fob.

But its the background work thats the real killer....

4hrs to accurately model the lock in CAD and figure out how to cut it.. and another 2 hrs to generate tool paths to do it.
then about another 12 hours of CAD/CAM and machining to make all the fixturing needed. So the payback for the upfront amount of time investment will not make any sense until I've made made 20-30 pieces for any given lock.

But to be honest, i have the spare time right now and i love cutaways myself.. thats really why i do it! Any profits just go into more locks or tooling or heading towards other lock related projects.

The way the cut can be symmetrical on this padlock and the knife edges either side of the central window - fantastic!

If I had that kind of tooling, I would be making my own locks. You certainly have the capablity.

Nice! Must be fun to have all the toys.
Some constructive criticism; The logo and number "maker's mark" would look much sharper without the milling marks leftover. All the other lines and cuts in the lock are very clean in comparison.
