it was a Security seal on the handle attached to nothing :-) I blurred it out because of the serial number on it

Yeah, you're not kidding about the 175 locks.

To answer your question, yes, for the purposes of this contest I'm going to count chained padlocks as installed since they're clearly in use.

This is my first post here at keypicking.com! I'm new to lockport.

This lock is to "secure" a mall parking lot, so customers pay cash to exit on the left, while those in an adjacent corporate lot get out for free on the right.

This almost looks like a good use for a lock close up...

When you take a look at the bigger picture, however, it's clear somebody needed to think things through more:

  • Plastic chain is highly secure stuff
  • The original post it was attached to was glued to the road. Not once, not twice, but three times, in different places. None worked.
  • The original post has a swivel base, so the whole post is easily pushed over
  • The attachment between the post and the chain separated from the post.
  • The chain was finally looped over a different post in resignation
