Those stress test were interesting. The one missing test was a cordless angle grinder - very commonly used. I doubt if any shackle can withstand a carbide wheel - even a Dremel for that matter. The puck style hidden shackle is my choice, especially with the purpose designed hasp which completely hides the vulnerable part.

Except for the plug. That is still vulnerable. And the pins. :P

Deadlock wrote:Interesting, if somewhat disappointing, that a shackle with words like Boron and Carbide on it should grind away so easily. How long did it take to cut through it?

The boron refers to a steel alloy containing boron, which increases its hardenability considerably, thus allowing to make the shackle out of cheaper steel in comparison to making the shackle out of highly alloyed steel having the same hardening properties.

The carbide text can refer to multitude of things, so I can't say for sure what it means in the context of a shackle unless it is a marketing hype term (yes, boron and other alloying elements like to form carbides in steel, but to an extent to be useful..?).

Wow those tests are making me rethink my opinion on Master lock. good g-d what has this world come too? lol.

Great link thanks for sharing. I also noticed one big and very important part of those shackle test is that Medeco's shackle is significantly smaller than the rest. Doesnt seem like a fair race to me.

Oh and great key making mate. Love those schalge pics. I believe ___________ has a collection of homemade enviro keys but lets not name names. NEver know who is watching lmao
