Mystery Key Type Thingy (Technical Term)

So while cleaning out some junk from our old law enforcement center/county jail, I happened upon this key. I have no idea what it is for exactly, but it is made to fit a 5/32 hex shaft, seemingly through a recessed hole.

It's hard to tell in the pictures, but there are wear signs of all but about 1/8" of the shaft of the key having been inserted and twisted.

if no one knows the answer I can ask my boss on Monday (he use to work in a jail)
is it all one piece or does the top come off?

I've seen cabinet "locks" like that. Not that exact style, but simple hex keys and 5-sided shafts for computer cabinets.

Did not find the key, but when searching "prison cylinder key" I did find an interesting suppository tool kit!

That is a double edge shaving razor key. It fits in the hollow handle of razors for inmates so the razor blade could not be removed or replaced except by staff. Found a bunch of razors and some shaving brushes but only one key in a storage room at the state penitentiary in 1976.

Now THAT is some 'inside'* knowledge! Hats off to jailersmith for that answer!

Now that is some serious inside knowledge! I thought the knurling looked like a Gillette razor handle, but didn't think it could possibly be related.

Correct about the razor. Here is a video:

Still think my butt tool kit is more interesting. (See above.)

Maybe so, though willing to bet the key smells better!

Just when you think you've learned it all, that is when you find you haven't learned anything yet.
