Cutting Abloy Classic keys

Here is a little demonstration / tutorial about cutting Abloy Classic & Profile keys.
There is 10 positions for cuts. 6 different cut depths. Cut number 0 is un cut, and number 5 is full 90 degrees. So that makes 18 degree difference on each cut number.
The first cut is 3 mm. from the tip of key, each cut is 2 mm. wide alltho the discs are only 1,4 mm. So you have a tolerance of about 0,3 mm. on each side.
Abloy Profiles use the exactly same space/depth chart as Classic with the exeption of the Profiles using 14 discs and narrower cuts. (US. government keyway for example)
I cut Abloys allways to the code. Only had to use a copying machine a few times. -With those narrow-disced-Profiles. I use the GT40-B shown on the video mostly for other rotating disc tumbler keys, and Avas.
It takes on average 35 seconds to cut a key with either of my code cutters. Or 100 keys per hour, and you have time for a quick smoke too.
I made some videos about my machines. I had to take several shots, and don´t have the patience to edit them all together, so you get 3 videos.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing, I never knew how those keys are cut. The cutting wheels look pretty scary!

Wizer, Awesome videos! One of the shops I used to work at could cut these on a Dom turret machine. What a pain in the A__! Dedicated equipment never looked so nice. Thanks for the tour!

Re: Cutting Abloy Classic keys

One more way to cut Classics would be filing them.
I wouldn´t want even to try to file them using free hand, but Jaakko Fagerlund (-a finnish picker/toolmaker) has made a gadget to file Classics and Profiles to code.
I think he was the first to come up with the now-so-popular Abus Granit decoder pick.
The gadget is a hand held "keycutter" that allows you to file the key to code.
Here is a link to his blog. Its written in finnish, but you can click the pictures to enlargen the photos and google translator is getting better all the time.
