Hi folks,

I recently purchased a beautiful old Dominion Lock 144M Semi-Automatic key machine. Unfortunately, however, the previous owner decided that it was a good idea to grind the vice jaws down with the cutting wheel. As a result, the cutting wheel is very dull. I tried removing it, but the nut on the cutter side just refuses to budge. Can someone please help me?

If it is like any other key cutting machine i've worked on:

You have to put a rod throught the hole next to the cutter wheel. That blocks the axle from spinning.
Then turn clockwise to loosen the nut.

Hello, thanks for the reply! I tried sticking a rod in the hole, but it wouldn't lock the axle...

Hello, thanks for the reply! I tried sticking a rod in the hole, but it wouldn't lock the axle...

did you slowly hand turn the axle until the rod could drop in deeper?

Hello, I tried doing that but there was no notch. However, I finally got the nut off. It turns out that the threaded hole was for a screw or something, so I put a screw in, tightened it down all the way, then I used a wrench on the pulley side and finally loosened the nut. It was a pain, but I finally got the new cutter in! I will post a new video once I finish calibrating the machine.

Threaded hole is for the cutting wheel shroud/cover, either metal or plastic.
