Hand Cut key for Desk Lock

So I was bored today and decided to try and make a key for an old desk lock (unknown stamped PA12) .

Straight to the pics:

Disassembled ready for measuring

In open position:

New hand cut key with lock:

This is actually the second key as I ended up taking a little too much off the bitting on one side when trying to clean up my cuts.

And that's what i did tonight.

Ha! You're not alone... I'll raise my hand for having done that!
Actually I'll raise BOTH hands. I've done it more than once.

Nice job on that Doogs. I've yet to work much with flat keys.
I did buy some warding files a couple weeks ago though.

Re: Hand Cut key for Desk Lock

I was surprised at the tolerances on what i assumed was a cheap desk lock. Just by squaring up my filing by a couple of thou. was the difference between a binding key and a working key. I guess that goes to show that even with a low quality lock one should be conscientious about their filing.
