Just rekeyed my first lock.

Small milestone for me tonight as I just rekeyed my first lock. :hbg:

Was given a lock without a key and other assorted locks with and without keys so I thought it was time I had a go at rekeying a lock. :???:

Pulled apart victim lock and used a key from another lock and placed it in the barrel and added pins until they matched the shear line. :geek:

Didn't have all sizes yet so I added master wafers until they were high enough. Some chambers have 2 master wafers to make the height but it works great. :kickyoass:

One small step for Greg....

Re: Just rekeyed my first lock.

The victim lock had no name from an entry knobset and the keys that now fit were Whitco from a sliding door set.

Top of pic is the original lock that came with the keys at the bottom of pic and the centre lock is now keyed alike.

Way to go, Greg. It is so fun to see members growing in their knowledge, and then sharing it with all of us.

Re: Just rekeyed my first lock.

I'm lovin this hobby/obsession.

Just rekeyed my second lock. This one on my house. For the 9 years we have lived here, we haven't had a key for our side door that leads out to the driveway so we have had to lock it from the inside and go out the back door and lock it from the outside and reverse all that when we came home. In convenient most of the time but a real pain in the keyway when it is raining as the back door has no cover but the side door did.

I was going to take the lock to a locksmith and get a key made but thought it would be too expensive. Now we use the nearest door, like we should and it cost nix.

Also just picked my Master lockout lock for work.
