Just picked one of my freebees from the locksmith clean out and found these small pins/wafers on top of the key pins.

They were only above pins 1,2 and 3.

Pin 1 is 1.51mm

Pin 2 is 0.74mm

Pin 3 is 1.50mm

I have read about master keys and assume these are the very same extra pins.

No name on anything but AT30 above keyway and R on left and 3 on right of keyway.

Yup, you got it... master pinned. Interesting to see for the first time, eh?

Some are more like pins, while others are so thin you're more inclined to call them wafers or discs.
You often hear people suggesting that's it's not a good idea to needlessly pick locks that are in use.
There's a handful of reasons for this.... but those thin wafers are one of them.

Now that you've seen just how thin some of them are you can probably imagine what could happen.
When the plug is turned a full revolution without a key in it, there's always the small possibility of
having one or more of those losing their place and dropping into the keyway, (or worse).

Haven't come across any security or serrated pins yet but still looking.

Was also told today that different locks can have different size ( diameter and length ) pins so that was great information before I disassemble all my locks and toss them all into the same bottle.

Need to find lots of small bottles now.

Just found 5 x 20ml clear plastic bottles on evilbay for $2.68 AU delivered.

You can also use pill trays (for setting up what pills you take during the week). You can find them at the local pharmacy, or some markets will have them.
