KeyPicking.com - New Ownership

Effective immediately, I have transferred ownership of KeyPicking.com to Elbow and MBI.

I have arrived at this decision after enduring a life altering personal experience over the past week – the impending death of my mother from Stage 4 liver and lung cancer. This is a hard lesson to learn – but one that I hope each one of you will take a few minutes to ponder.

All too often we all get involved in our pursuits – taking them so seriously that we forget the truly important things in life. Our egos push us to challenge others for stupid reasons – just to prove that it can be done. We enjoy causing misery to others, cloaking ourselves in the anonymity of the internet – while hacking and destroying other people’s dreams and pastimes.

Others feel “entitled” to a certain position of status and self-importance – they lull themselves into believing that they are better than others solely because their abilities are so weirdly focused – that they have lost perspective of their own family lives and ultimately become obnoxious drunks, rattling on about how great they are – how more deserving they are.

As I have struggled to come to terms with the death of my mother within the next few hours, I realize how truly stupid it would be for me to continue with something that has lost all meaning to me this week.

Gentlemen, lockpicking is a great hobby – and for some of us a vital part of an honorable profession.

But for the majority of you – don’t let it become such an all-consuming passion that you turn away and neglect your loved ones. Because one day, you’ll be standing in my shoes – wondering that if you might have been just a bit less focused on picking that high-security lock and more attentive to the health of your loved ones – you might have been able to spot the clue that indicated how truly sick they were.

I want to thank all of my friends that I have made on KeyPicking.com for their fierce loyalty to the forum – and to me personally. I especially want to thank Sideshow Mick and his wife for their support in this difficult time. Also, I want to thank Jruther, 45Cal, Bouncer and Awol70, for their invaluable help in moderating this forum.

Lastly, I want to thank Elbow and MBI for picking up the flag and moving it forward. Thank you guys – the forum could be in no better hands.

Although I will happily assist with the transition over to the new ownership, my role here is finished. I may pop in to say hello to a few friends, but my desire to pursue this hobby has burnt out completely and been replaced with a wave of grief and self-recrimination.

Good luck to you all.

HC

Hey man,

I'd like to thank you for all the time, effort and money you have put into the site over the time it has been under your purveyance. I know most here will miss your leadership. You always been a really great guy to shot the shit with too :) Not to mention very generous. I can't express enough my sorrow for your loss. Losing close loved ones is a very very difficult and trying thing.

So without further ado, once again THANK YOU SIR!

'Thank you Hallis' is just NOT enough. Unfortunately, I'm lost for words... so I'll just hope you know how heart-felt and sincere those three words are.

So sorry to hear about your mothers passing & the circumstances preceding it. You and your family will certainly be in my thoughts & prayers for some time.

Also, in light of the past two weeks I've had, and my personal struggles with obbsession/exccessiveness... some of your thoughts had a great deal of meaning to me....

Elbow, MBI, JR2... Thank you all SO much!! Hallis created this wonderful place that is filled with not ONLY a vast amount of info.... but also filled with
friendship and comradery. If not for your guys' willingness to carry on.... this beautiful place might not be available for us all to enjoy. Thank you!!

Sorry to hear about your mother.
Take all the time you need and focus on your family, AND yourself.
But one day, when you feel the time is right, pick up that pick again.
Thank you for all the work and money you have given this forum, I hope to see your posts again someday.
Take care of yourself.

Sorry to hear that...

I sat for days close to my father's bed... with a pick, a wrench and a couple of locks in my hands. Those 2 locks helped me a lot in that period.

Hope to see you here soon :)
