Weiser Locks

Well, I don't claim to know everything, but I do know a little about rekeying locks as I have done quite a bit. Weiser locks are not common at all around here and I have no experience with them at all, I do have reference books but none with me today at work. A guy brought in a Weiser Kik looked just like a Kwikset only with a Weiser keyway, I have pinning sets at work and he wanted it repinned to match a Weiser key that he had, but had no key for this set. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get the lock out of the knob. I am looking at my book now, but I would like more info on these from anybody who deals with them. I wonder if this is the one that needs the Weiser shim pick, but I haven't even seen one of them to be honest with ya. The guy bought a 16 dollar Kwikset anyways but I would still like to be able to deal with these.

well, they are about on par with kwiksets... But I removed the cylinder from a weiser KiK not too long ago and it was pretty straight forward other than having to shake the hell out of the tulip to get it to finally fall out. If I remember correctly there was a hole on the side of the neck of the tulip and there was a retaining screw in there with a hex head.

Most of the Weisers I run into, pull the stem out on the back of the lock, use the key or pick it 180 degrees, and pull the whole face of the lock out the front.

LOL! I hope I can pick one!! They look really tough! I will try that next time. There was no hole anywhere Elbow, I think Kokomo is right though, I have read a little about them, I will try to pick and pull out and see what happens. I may not see another one, there is not too many around these parts.

But pull out the stem and clip the vice grips on it BEFORE you pick the lock. They are picky little things. You'll think the knobs are a bitch until you run into one of thier PITA leversets...

There a crazy brand for sure, ever looked at the WR3 key close? It's a KW1 profile but the WR3 blade is wider so that they won't interchange. There is not many around here, I don't even know where the handful I have seen came from, I have never seen any for sale in any hardware stores or the big box stores. They are not that special, just special ways to service them.
