Becoming a Locksmith

Hello Ladies and Gents,

I have decided to write this post to hopefully find out how to become a Locksmith in the UK, there are number of courses on the internet in which offer three day courses and you get certification at the end of them, they are all very expensive..... so what i would like to no is :

Are they worth it?
Is this the only way to become a Locksmith ?
How did you start a career in Locksmithing?
The first steps to becoming a Locksmith?

Any help would be appreciated,

Are they worth it?
As an employer, I would take any online-certification with a grain of salt.
Three days is never, ever enough to learn anything. I would expect three full days to be a good start to learning how to use a file. Nothing more. From there, you build up.
So while you might get some technical information from the course, and you'll get a little line to add to your resume, in the trade, it's next to useless.

Is this the only way to become a Locksmith ?
No. Go to your local locksmith and ask if they're highering apprentices.

How did you start a career in Locksmithing?
Walked into a locksmith and said "What do I have do to get a job, and when can I start"

The first steps to becoming a Locksmith?
Take a nose-dive off your platform if you think you know anything about locks. Be ready to listen and learn, before offering your own oppinion, and realise that the people who make a living off the profession, probably have a reason for doing things the way they do.

those are great answers man, i never thought about becoming an apprentice
Arguing on forums is like running in the special olympics,
even if you win, you're still retarded.

Thank you for the advice, i will try asking a few local locksmiths if they need any apprentices.
